How I will be an asset to my new school

How I will be an asset to my new school ?

Have you ever wondered about the different things you will be doing at your chosen college?. That's me!. I am going to Tamaki college and I'm pretty excited about it. Tamaki College is a great school. I like the teachers there because they are welcoming and kind. Going to a new school can be hard for people because you are around new people and new teachers. Although for me I like to try new things and set goals for myself. Meeting new people is not hard for me at this college since I've experienced what life is like there.

Tamaki College has many opportunities for students that go there. They teach a driving course, many different subjects to does many celebrations. I like to celebrate a lot of festivals so I can be useful and help by convincing people to come!. Going there will not only make me happy but also help me understand my learning more too. I am a good student to go there, because I am very hard working.

I am determined to work hard and achieve the goals that I have set for this year. I have achieved all my silver C.A.R.E award badges and am still working hard to achieve my gold badges. I have joined a variety of sports such as touch, cricket, after-school netball, inter school netball, and softball. I have also received my 500 blog post badge and am trying to blog more to get to my 1000 blog post badge. I am sure that I will try my best at this college despite the hard times I go through.

When I go to Tamaki I will give 100% and commit to working hard and achieving my goals that I have set for the year. I try my best at all sports I sign up for. I try to join a lot of sports and ensure that I am listening to the teacher. One subject I am very good at is writing because I understand what we are learning and I am very fast when it comes to finishing off my task. In reading, I am good at communicating with others about the articles that my group reads. With maths, I can solve problems using different strategies.

I am going to Tamaki college and I'm pretty excited about it. Tamaki College is a great school. I know that I have the qualities to go to this college and impress the teachers with my skills. Going to a new school can be tough for most people, because you are around new people but for me meeting new people is easy because I can interact with people pretty fast. This is how I will be a great asset to my new school.

This week LS2 have been writing explanations. The year eights are writing about, " How we will be a asset to our new school" and year sevens are writing about " Why they make a good leader". I am going to Tamaki College and I'm pretty excited about it. I think that I'll make a great asset to my new school because I have many great skills.

Showing our values

Showing Our Values

What do you do when your not being treated right?. Everyone has their time when someone's not being kind or showing empathy. Those words are called "Values". There are many different values such as: Respect, Kindness, Empathy, Tolerance and Positive Attitude. Each word has a different meaning to it but I have chosen 3 very important values I think that is very important to show everyday because it's important to be respectful to each other.

The first value is Respect. It means to treat everyone the way you want to be treated. If you treat someone else badly than it is most likely for that type of attitude to be shown back. Receiving respect from someone else makes us feel good and safe. Having respect in your relationship with somebody builds trust, safety and well being. Respect is kinda like showing kindness too, you need to be nice to one another in order for you to get treated the same way back.

The second value is Kindness, meaning to be nice to each other and not being mean. Kindness in a relationship is also very important because it makes you feel good about yourself. Doing things for other people such as helping them or even giving a gift to them makes you feel warm that you accomplish doing something that's right and not wrong. Just like empathy, you need to be kind to each other when someone is not feeling happy.

The last value is Empathy. It is when you put yourself in other people's shoes and feel what their feeling. It's always important to show empathy so we know what to do when someone is feeling sad about a certain situation. When you show empathy it also shows how much you care for that person and even helping them through their situation is even better. This is why it important to how empathy.

All these values are important to show to everyone each day. Yes you may not be treated nicely sometimes but just remember treat them how you want to be treated, be kind to them and show empathy cause they might show it back. By doing this it will show to everyone that you are able to show values. This is why using our value daily is important to us.

This week I have wrote an explanation about why it is important to how our values. I have chosen three important values I think that we need to show everyday which is respect, kindness and empathy. Respect means to treat everyone the same you want to be treated. Kindness is to be nice to one another and empathy is to put your self in other people's shoes and feeling what their feeling.

Explanation: Should NZ ban plastic straws?

Plastic Straws!, People around the world like plastic straws but some really don’t. In my opinion, plastic straws are awful, dreadful and harmful. Ever realise, why the word plastic straw has plastic in it, let me give you a hint! It's PLASTIC! which also means it takes a long time to degrade. Straws are harming the marine life. How would you feel if you were a turtle going along the shores and ate a plastic straw, thinking it could be food. Straws release toxic that could harm these sea creatures.

Plastic straws are too small to be recycled so they are either thrown into the landfills or blown away to a nearby river, lake or beach which could harm the sea creatures living in these oceans. Think about it, 65,000 straws were found during clean ups on beaches!, what if that many straws were filled up on your favourite beach? Did you know that it takes about 5 human life times just for plastic to break down? Wow that is a lot of years. Once plastic straws break down they turn into many little micro-plastics that can easily enter our environment. If straws are being taken away it will decrease the amount of plastic that is being used.

According to the National Park Services it is said that straws are the 11th most common piece of trash found when doing ocean clean ups. About 172 million straws are being used everyday and thrown away. During 2015 a small helpless turtle had a 15 meter straw stuck up its nose. Think about the pain he was going through at that time, how would you feel if that was you?. Marine life has been hurt, trapped and even died from the amount of plastic we are throwing away. I am glad to see that people are making a change and bringing in metal, paper and even bamboo straws.

Did you know that drinking sugary drinks using a straw can actually cause a problem of cavities and tooth decay on your teeth. One stream of your own beverage, can run through your straw and into a small area of your teeth and just by that action it can damage your enamel and cause cavities and tooth decay. Drinking out of a straw can also be harmful to children. Little children can even choke from straws. You might even choke from straws one day!.

What’s the point of having straws?. When it's obviously going to be thrown away and used once, which can end up in the sea. What if you heard the turtles painful cries and moans? Think about your home, you don't want rubbish in your house so why do this to these sea creatures. We have listened, we have learned so now let's save the turtles, thank you!.

Self / Buddy Writing Evaluation

Self and Buddy Exaluation

Rubbish

Do you ever think of what happens once you throw away something? We see rubbish all over our land but never think to pick it up. It may have been on dirt or an insect could be inside but do you ever think of what is happening around us. Did you know that nine billion tons of rubbish are affecting our marine life? We should start to think about the things rubbish is doing to affect us.

Although this is may mean nothing to some people it definitely can do much worse than we think. One way we could fix this problem is Reuse!. Reuse, What does it mean, well it says it in its name. We can use things again instead of throwing it away. Like plastic water bottles. My family and I always reuse water bottles because sometimes the water bottles at the shops are expensive.
Another word we can use is reduced!.

Reduce means making a big problem into a smaller problem for example, We are reducing the amount of plastic we are using. We can still eat chips for our lunches put instead of bringing it to school with the packet, we could use reusable containers to put them in. This was we are reducing the amount of rubbish that gets thrown away at school.

Many people try to start a campaign to save our world. By doing this they do all sorts of things and one of them is picking up rubbish. This is called recycling it means putting our rubbish in the bin. We put things like wrappers and more. Sometimes there is glass that has been broken and we step on them, Who knows what a small piece of glass can do to our feet!.

Let's recall We need to stop littering and start changing. We should always Reuse and Reduce. Looking after our environment is very important.  .So let's make this problem a different change and always remember to Reuse, Reduce and don't forget to always throw your rubbish in the bin.

Today I have been working on how I could make my explanation for writing better. We used the Writing Rubric to help us work out which structure and language features I already know how to use. I have grouped up with Mele and Sakina. Together we have been checking each others work and giving feedback to each other. For example I think I got an R4 for punctuation because I have used Commas, Explanation Marks and a Question mark in my explanation.

This week for Writing we have been learning about bridges. So I have created an explanation showing why we build bridges. I learnt that some bridges are not only used for cars but they can also be used for crossing. We have bridges so we can get to another destination. It is very useful to use people from today onwards. Here is the link to my Explanation : Link

Chinese New Year Explanation

Why is the chinese new year a very old tradition?

Kung Hei Fat Choi means Happy New Year in Chinese. Every year Chinese New Year is held in China and many different countries. It starts on a new moon. So, this year it started on February 16th.

On February 16th Chinese New Year for 2018 began. The Chinese people celebrate with a traditional feast and end it with a lantern festival. Each year is named after an animal. To decide the order of the animals, the animals had a race to see which animal will be the Animal of the Year. For 2018 the animal that we have is a Dog. This is also the animal for 2006 / 1994 / 1982 /1970 and 1958. The Dog has three meanings which are responsibility, being serious, it also represents being loyal.

Chinese New Year finishes after 15 days. So since Chinese New Year started February 16th this year it will finish on the 2nd of March. On the last day they have a lantern festival. In the lantern festival they have many lanterns in different shapes. They also make the lantern fly away or make it float on the water. For 2018 they are going to hold the Lantern Festival in Auckland at the Domain.

Chinese New Year starts on the first day of a new moon, this year it started on February 16th. Every year Chinese New Year is held in China and in many other different countries, once again Kung Hei Fat Choi which means Happy New Year in Chinese.

This week for writing we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We watched a video that had some information about Chinese New Year. I actually found out a lot of things about Chinese New Year. My partner was Sky. We created a explanation about Chinese New Year. Mrs Anderson also taught us a new language structure which was TIIC. T meant Title, I meant Introduction, I meant Information and C meant Conclusion. Using this will help me plan my ideas when I am writing an explanation.

My Morning Routine

  • Getting ready
  • Eating
  • Dropping of  Mum / School

My Morning Routine

My Morning routine is really simple for me. I have to have a morning routine so that it can help me be organized Monday to Friday, for my school week.

When my mum wakes me up she tells me straight away to go and get ready. So first I take a bath. Then I go to the sink to brush my teeth. I get out of the bathroom and dry myself up so then I can put my uniform on. As soon as I do that I start to dry my hair so then I can tie it up. After that I go and put my shoes and socks on and get my chromebook so then I can put it in my bag, with that my lunch too. I set my bag aside once I have everything in it.

Now it's time for me to eat breakfast. I get my bowl and put in 4 weet bix with milk. Then I put it in the microwave for 1 minute. I take it out and add sugar then mix that up. I pray for my food then eat. Sometimes I add in a little bit of butter. Which makes it taste even better. Once I'm done I put my bowl in the sink and my mum says it's time to go. Sometimes she would say that half way through my food.

Now I'm in the car on the way to drop off my mum. It's a long ride but it’s still alright. Once we’re there I say bye to my mum and we head off to school. At Panmure I usually see other people walking to their school. I get dropped off and say goodbye to my brother. While walking I meet up with my friend and we would talk about things. Then we go up to our classroom put our bags away and our chromebooks and say good morning to our teachers if we see them.

This is my morning routine. I have a morning routine because it really helps me to be ready every morning.

This week for Writing we had an explanation to do. We either got to write about how we walk to school or our Morning Routine.I done my morning routine because I don't walk to school anymore. My morning routine is really simple it seems long but its actually really simple and short.
