Let it rain - Summer Learning Journey

Today I have finished a sentence that was about the acid rain. Acid rain is really bad for you. If acid rain hits the ground it will destroy plants because it is polluted. I would be a bit scared in acid rain had hit New Zealand. Well here is my finished sentenance:

New Zealand was hit by a massive acid rain storm. Acidic rain fell for three days and three nights. When the rain fell, I stayed inside with my friends and family. When it stopped, however, me and your family decided to go for a walk outside. I opened the door and everything was destroyed. No more plants, dried grass. It was terrible. Smiles turned upside down. It was dark, cloudy and horrible. Everyone went back inside and watched the news to see if there was any updates. Turns out nature was ruined for everyone. The acid rain had destroyed out beatiful New Zealand. This wasn't good at all.

Here to stay - Summer Learning Journey

Today I am on day 5. I am nearly close to the last week of the Summer Learning Journey. Here I have learnt 3 things on how humans can pollute the air. It was very intersting finding out these facts. Here are the facts that satisfied me the most:

1. Some air pollutants come from natural sources like eruptions, fires or allergens but they are maily caused by humans

2. Climate changes can produce pollution in our air for example the climate change creates higher temperatures

3.  Smog is a type of air pollution, Smog is not good for you

Crazy, Cool Clouds - Summer Learning Journey

Today for task 3 of day 4 I have choose a picture of a cloud. There were 3 photos and I wanted to do picture #3. I am to write about what the cloud looks like what shape is it and what I see in the photo:

Picture #3:
This photos looks like clouds that have been joint together. For me it is the shape of a mustache but if you look close it looks like dolphines touching each others heads. I choose this photo because it really caught my eye when I looked at it.

Matariki - Summer Learning Journey

Today I am to write about the Matariki story. Matariki is the cluster of sisters ( The seven stars ). There is a story that was written about this story by Toni Rolleston-Cummins. Here is my 6-8 sentences:

This story is about Matariki. One day in a village called Maketu, Mitai and his brothers went hunting on a hill when all of a sudden they heard the most beautiful singing. They were enhanced and followed the singing all the way to the top of the mountain where they'd found the most beautiful whane. Their hair glowed which made their skin look white. Immediately mitai brothers fell in love. Mitai never fell in love he said they were fairy woman. The men took their wives back to their village. Each day mitai would get suspicious. So one day he decided to spy on his brother's wives. He found out his brother's wives were patupaiarehe ( fairylike women ). The patupaiarehe had a plan to starve their brothers to death so what they did was he caught them with is net and sent them to the heavens uru te ngangana ( god of the stars ), there Mitai asked him to take the wives far away and so he did uru te ngangana turned the wives into stars. THese stars were called Matariki and it meant maori new years.

Bumble Bee - Summer Learning Journey

Today for this activity I get to fill in the blanks for the Unbee-Livable Facts about Bumblebee. I think that this is a good acivity because I don't really know much about Bublebees. Here are the sentences:

  1. The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means to _Hum, Buzz, Drone, or to move ineptly or flouderingly
  2. Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 54 kilometres per hour (km/h).
  3. Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do  50 times as much work as a normal honeybee.
  4. The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including removal of wildflowers and flowering tress

Polluted Rivers - Summer Learning Journey

 ( Wairua River )

 ( Tukituki River )

For this activity I have found two rivers that are polluted in New Zealand. The Wairua River and the Tukituki river are known to be dirty polluted rivers that are located in New Zealand. The Wairua River is in the Northland of NZ. Their is a running community based group that is dedicated to saving the Wairua River. They have created a Electricity generator TrustPower of its intention to build and operate a hydroelectric power scheme on the river. The Tukituki River is located in Hawks bay of NZ. The Green party have said their thoughs saying that Tukituki river is precious and loved rivers. They are planning to work and clean this river if they are elected into governtment next year.

Off the Menu - Summer Learning Journey

Today for this activity I get to talk about a rule that is set for fishers. The rule is that if you are caught overfishing ( catching way too much fish ) you are fined with the amount of 100 00 dollers just for over fishing. I think that this is not a great rule because you never know that those people are in a business or need food. Some people out their can't afford to make food so one thing they can do is have a stock of fish to help them have a full stomach. Back in my Island ( Fiji ) we all love fish and many visitors would love to eat fish for lunch or dinner. Overall I think that this rule should stop for various reasons.

Picture Perfect - Summer Learning Journey

Today for this activity I am writing my thoughts about one of the photos Rachel set for us. I get to talk about where I think the women are in the photos, What is happening and what were they doing when the stopped for the pose of the picture. Here are my thoughts about Selfie #3

Selfie #3:

I think that in the photo the women are taking a photo of her and the buildings behind her. This photo is a bit scary but cool. The scary part of the photo is that she is standing on an edge of a building. The cool part is that the view on the photo is beautiful. I think that this photo is located in Havana. I think this because I have seen buildings like this is in a movie that showed the places. This movie was called Fast and the Furious 7. The women that were taking a photo must have been very scared while taking the photo since it was on top of a building. If I was the women taking the photo I wouldn't take the risk of climbing the building because of I and frightened of heights. Would you try doing a photo like the one on the top?.

Summer Learning Journey - Devils Bath

Today I am on day 3 activity 2. This activity talks about the Devils Bath in Rotorua. It is a neon green pool of stinky water. I get to come up with a list of 3 to 5 names for this pool. Here are the names I choose:

  • Greens Nature (*)
  • Devils Vomit
  • Natures Water
  • Green Medicine
  • Stinky Mud

Summer Learning Journey - Milford Sound

For this activity, I get to choose whether I would take Boat, Foot Walk or take the Helicopter the Milford Sound. The Milford sound is one of the most beautiful places located in New Zealand. In my opinion, I would foot walk because it is great exercise and I would get very fit, plus I have never been on a boat or the helicopter. If I would ever get in a boat I would be scared because I would feel like the boat would sink and I wouldn't take the helicopter because it might fall over.

Summer Learning Journey - My Maths Problem

Today for this activity I solved a maths problem that is about the Colosso Squid. This squd is known to be the most heaviest squid possible. Here in NZ we have a full size Colsosso Squid at the Te Pappa Muesuem in Wellington and the want to move it agian. This squid is about 500 kg. I need to see how much kids and adults it would need to move it. Adults can carry 25 kg of the squid and kids can lift 15 kg of the squid. I think the answer to this is that 13 adults and 12 kids are needed to life this squid because I used the easiest way and just added 25 + 15 over and over again like this:

25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 = 505

Rachel said that their is a various amount of answers and my answer was 505. I got that answer because of the 5 at the end of 25.

Summer Learning Journey - My Dish

Today I get to talk about a dish. The dish that I choose to write the ingredients for is Qalu pronounced ( N-G-A-L-U). Galu is a Fijian dish that taste like chocolate. • Brown Sugar
  • Bannana

Summer Learning Journey - Strangest Plants

Today this activity is kinda like a venn diagram. I get to choose 2 strangest plants from this SITE! and list down three similarities and three different things about the plant. The plants I choose is called the Lithop and the Mimosa Pudica. The three first similartities is that they both are found in somewhere in the South like South Africa or South America, They both are a strange plant that most people might not of seen before and they have some rules when it comes to taking care of them. My three different things about these plants are that Lithops grow from rocks and Mimosa Pudica are grown from leaves, Lithops are yellow and Mimosa Pudica are pink and my final reason is that Lithops can live longer than the mimosa Pudica.

She is not afraid of anything and she to me she is my role model this is why I choose her.

Weaving - Summer Learning Journey

For week 2 day 2 the first activity is about Flax Weaving. I watched a video that shows me how to make a fiish ( Ika ) out of Flax. On my blog I get to tell you guys wheather I would try flax weaving. I would definitely try out Flax Weaving beacause I am determine to try new things even if I may not be good at it. This sounds very intersting to me becuase it would be better to make things handmade like a baskets or mats. Overall I think this would be a great activity to do because when you are bored you can just create some mats or cloakes.

One thing I love to do in the holdiays is skip because like Laura's activity it is great for exercising and I love to challenge my brother to a skipping rope challenge.

Going Going, Gone - Summer Learning Journey

Today I have learnt that scientist have discovered that some cites might sink into the water. So it is my turn to tell you guys what it was like in New Zealand before it sinks next week ( Oh no ). I am to write a letter and show a picture to thoose who have not see New Zealand before. Here is my letter:

To whom it may Concern,

I am Marieta Gaunavou and I live in New Zealand. NZ ( which is the shorter version of New Zealand) is a beautiful place. There is so many different things to try here like going to Rainbows Ends or going to the Zoo to see all the beautiful animals but the best place to visit is the Sky Tower. It is very tall and there is so many rooms in there like a cafe. One thing I like about the sky tower i the view on the higest floor. There is so many buildings to look at. I also love going to the Shops too. You can buy anything you would like. I hope it was to never sink but so far my love for NZ will never stop.

Thank you,
Marieta Gaunavou

My Trip to Tundra - Summer Learning Journey

This week for the summer learning journey I get to write a letter to a family member or friend about my trp to Tundra. My letter includes 5 - 6 sentences and starts with a greeting. I've decided to do this letter to Mele Latuila because to is my Best Friend. Here is my letter:

Dear Mele, I wish you were here in Tundra with me. We are having a blast doing many different activities. There is definitely lots of land to look at and the weather here is quite odd. It is cold but then its very dry. We are living in a beautiful house near the most prettiest sunset ever. Everyone sends their regards and they all miss you very much. One of my favourite activitys was playing in the snow with Angela, Avalon, Nyjah and Fui. We were creating snowballs and throwing them at each other. For the past few days I have had a great time, if only you were here!,

Thank you!
Marieta

Logging - Summer Learning Journey

For day 5 first activity I get to talk about whether if logging should be allowed in New Zealand. The loggging I mean is the one were men or women cut down logs to create things. I think that logging should be allowed in New Zealand becuase it would help us create more pencils, drum sticks, drawers and more. Another reason to why we should have loggers in NZ is because without it thier wouldn't be a job called building and most people such as my cousin brother loves to build stuff and he is really good at it. These are my reason to why we should have loggers.

My Hotel - Bonus - Summer Learning Journey

Today for another activity I learnt that in Africa in a city called Bolivia there is a hotel that is made out of salt. SO for this activity I coud create my own hotel but their is bonus ponts. My hotel will be in America and it would be made out of very soft cloths so whenever they sleep they can have the best sleep and when they walk on the ground their feet would be satisfied on how soft it it. The cloths would be white, light blue and a grey.

  • control and monitor pests and weeds, and run native plant nurseries.

J.K Rowling - Summer Learning Journey

Today for day 3 day the Summer Learning Journey I have created a DLO. This acivity is about creating a creative beast that you can't find most of the time. Weird and Wonderful - SLJ

Today I have solved a maths problem frm the Summer Learning Journey. This was the activity. I got to use my math mind to solve a wuestion that refers to a plant. This plant is called a cactus. I got to imagine I had a cactus and feed it 3 ml of water every day in a year. The answer to this equation is 1095. I solved this by getting the total amount of the year which is 365 and I times it by 3 ml therefore the answer to this is 1095 ml of water would be the amount of water I gave to my plant in a year.
