Rhythm Interactive's visit to PBS

Image result for djembe

Today Panmure Bridge School has had a special visit from the Rhythm Interactive where " Together we can make a change". Johnny from the Rhythm Interactive had helped us learn the different types of beats we can make on the drums, he taught us that " if we can say it you can drum it!". We followed the rhythm that Johnny had done. His skills were amazing. Johnny had been using a South African drum called the Djembe. A Djembe is a bigger version of the little drums that we had used. Did you know that Djembe means Joy?. LS2 had gotten someone from either room 1 or 6 and helped them play the drums. Coming to the end, Panmure Bridge School played a game where we were to guess the instrument and if we had gotten it right the Rhythm Interaction would donate a Drum to us. At the end of the game we got a total of 7 drums. I think that today was really fun because not only I learnt how to play the drums but I also learnt that " Together we can make a change" and " If we can say it we can drum it". A big thank you to the Rhythm Interactive for taking their time to come and teach Panmure Bridge School how to play the drums. You can visit their site here: Rhythm Interactive

Tech

This week at tech we have been doing robotics. During robotics we programe mini m-Bots to do things. This week we programed our m-Bots by using algorithm to let our robots mvoe in a square and a circle. Algorithm means making steps or rule to do something. We used the site called " Make Block" to code our m-Bots. It was a bit challenging for some of us since we were new to this but Miss Mazino did give us some hints on how to make the m-Bot do a square.

Inference in Maths

This week in maths we are learning to inference. Inference means to read the text and skim and scam for the hints that tell you what is happening. I worked collaboratively with Ellanora to create a DLO that tells other peolpe Inference in maths. We have put in a example of how to infere when you are asked a maths question. Our question talks about rows in a chocolate bar.

Royal New Zealand Ballet

This week LS2 has had a great opportunity to do Ballet with Chole who is from the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Chole is a dance educator which means she travels around New Zealand to different schools and teaches them how to do ballet. The RNZB's current show is the "Black Swan, White Swan" and this show is based form an original show called " Swan Lake". Chole taught us a contemporary dance sequence from the Black Swan, White Swan. Everyone did really great and tried their best. Chole's tip was to commit to the movements to get the best effect. The music we danced to was a classic called " Tchaikovsky ".  A big thank you to Chole from the RNZB programe for taking her time out of her day to come and teach us ballet. Another big thank you to Mrs Jones for organizing this.

Banjo Paterson - Waltzing Matilda

This week for readng we have been looking at the story " Waltzing Matilda". This is a ballad poem and was written by Banjo Pateson but his real name is Andrew Paterson. A ballad poem is a poem that tells a story. Mrs Anderson challenged us to collaboratively work with the person that was sitting next to us. I was sitting next to Avalon so there for she was my partner. We have created a DLO about summarising. Summarising is where we choose 20 important words in the story that pick 6 very important words from the 20 words then using the 6 words we sum it up into a text with a few sentences. I thought that I would make my text funny.

Strengthening connections to maths language

LS2 has been strengthening their connections to the maths language to help understand what written maths questions are asking us. At the beginning of our maths session, we shared the different words we use to say 'hello' and thought about how this could be confusing for people who are learning to speak English. During our maths session, Mrs Anderson asked us what we thought the meaning of a plane is. Everyone had thought it was the transportation type, but in the maths context it was a flat surface. We need to know the what words mean in the maths context to help us understand the questions that we are asked. To complete this activity my group and I dragged each word to their maths box. We used the explore tool to help us define the meaning of a word.

Student Led Confrence

Every year all the students gets the chance to show their families the amazing work that they have created. We call this " Student Led Confrence ". This opputunity is held in our classes at our chosen time. This year we had our Student Led Confrence on a Wednsday. What we do is we explain to our families what have been learning in Reading, Writing, Maths and Inquiry. I have invited my brother and my mother to come over and see what I am learning in class. Overall both my brother and mother liked the art behind the wall because she liked all the different designs. After showing my brother and mother around the class I show them my digital work on the computar.

Information Report - Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong

This isn't about Yuri Gagarin, nor is it about Sputnik 1, but it is about Neil Armstrong. Neil Armstrong Is known to be the first person to walk on the moon. Did you know that at the age of 16 he received his first pilots licence? At an early age Neil Armstrong developed interest in planes. He was born in 1930 August 5th in Ohio.

When he was 14 years old he took his first flying lessons. After college Neil became a test pilot, he flew 78 missions during war. In 1949 the US Navy called him for active duty. Only some pilots were chosen to be astronauts. In 1962 Neil Armstrong was chosen to be one of the astronauts. During this time America had planned their first flight to the moon. Neil Armstrong had the opportunity take America's first flight to the moon.

In 1969 July 20th Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. His first words, as he stepped on the moon were "that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". A huge number of people watched the first moonwalk on TV. During his career he flew over 200 types of aircraft. September 1962 he was elected for the NASA Astronaut Corps, which meant he had completed a number of physical tests. After hearing that people were selling his autographs online, he stopped signing them.

Before NASA had its name it went by the name NACA, before Armstrong had worked there. He did a variety of roles, such as Engineering, Test Pilot, Astronaut and Administrator. Soon he resigned From the US astronaut program in 1970 and became Professor of Aerospace Engineering at University of Cincinnati and Served as chairman of the board of computing Technologies for Aviation.

Now you know that this wasn't about Yuri Gagarin, nor was it about Sputnik 1, but it was about Neil Armstrong. From this day on, Neil Armstrong's footprints are still laid on the Moon. Fun Fact: The three pilots arrived back on Earth, July 24th, which meant that they had spent 4 days on the moon.

Mele and Marieta

This term for writing LS2 have been focusing on how to write and structure a information report. In LS2 we use TIPS to help us with our writing. T-Title, I-Information, P-Paragraphs, and S-Summary. Mele and I worked collaboratively to write an information report about Neil Armstrong. It was really fun, because Mrs Anderson challenged us to use the voice type to write this, instead of actually typing it. Before anything happened, Mele and I watched and researched different information about Neil Armstrong. We use present tense, technical words, nouns, subheadings, when we write our information reports. Did you know that Neil Armstrong's footprints are still laid on the moon, till now?

Rocket Glossary

This term our topic for inquiry is Space. During this learning LS2 and LS1 have been working collaboratively to learn about this fascinating topic. We are all split into groups and each group are learning something new. I am in Mr Ogilvie's group and we are learning about rockets. Today I worked with Joel to ind the definitions of the words Mr Ogilvie gave us. I learnt some new words today and the meaning to those words.

Literary Devices

Here is the link to my DLO

This week as apart of our poetry learning LS2 has been working collabortively to find understandings for all the literary devices. Literary Devices are used when you are writing a peom.  The 6 literary devices are Simile, Hyperbole, Metaphor, Onomatopoeia, Personification and Alleteration. Mrs Anderson challenged us to create a google docs and use the explore tools to make a example of what the literary devices were, the definition and the picture.
